Telkom turned to Foreign Satellites


Illustration (ist)Jakarta -Telkom decided to hire an additional transponder of a number of foreign satellite, Telkom-1 satellite after being launched from the Cosmodrome Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, last week failed to reach orbit.

Foreign satellite is from the United States, GE Sat or JSAT's JCSAT Japan, China Satellite Sinosat and from China, as well as from Hong Kong Apstar.

"From every satellite C-Band we will hire five to six transponders transponder lease cost per USD 1 million per year," said Slamet Riyadi, Head of Corporate Communications and Affair Telkom, Jakarta.

He explained, the policy to hire an additional transponder of these foreign satellite to anticipate market needs in Indonesia, as well as satellite to serve a prospect who has hiring Telkom-1 satellite.

As known, Telkom-1 satellite charged 42 transponder will allocate 40%-45% or about 20 transponders for hire to other companies. While the rest is used for the needs of Telkom Group.

Telkom also predicted, if Telkom-3 satellite successfully entered orbit and the satellite infrastructure to operate optimally, it is believed to be able to contribute USD 50 million revenue per year after 2-3 years orbiting in space.
